What is Aimed LED Lighting?

EvoLucia Aimed LED Lighting is not only more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly than other light sources, it is also much more effective. Through our patented Aimed Optics™ technology, we have demonstrated that less overall light is needed if the light is correctly focused on the target area, which allows for more efficient lighting solutions. We have identified an immediate opportunity, particularly in the outdoor lighting market, to supply high quality energy-efficient lighting solutions through this patented technology. We continue to develop and refine our products to serve the market and are actively pursuing alliances that will allow us to drive down the cost of producing our “Aimed LED Lighting” products.
Simply put, “aimed LED lighting” is the method of providing exactly the light that’s needed, where it’s needed. Through our patent-pending Aimed Optics™ technology, EvoLucia optimizes utilization of LEDs to put the most foot-candles on the ground, in the pattern required, with the best uniformity, using the fewest LEDs and the least power consumed.
While traditional luminaires are utilize one single, omni-directional light source per fixture, such as a metal-halide light bulb, EvoLucia’s Aimed Optics™ lighting technology platform uses multiple LEDs. A reflector directs the light in the desired pattern and provides the requisite number of foot-candles exactly where they’re needed.
It is both cost advantageous and energy-efficient to minimize the number of LEDs used to achieve the required number and uniformity of foot-candles in the pattern desired. In order to do this, each LED (or small group of LEDs) must be aimed and focused optimally. The method for doing this is the basis for the Aimed Optics platform.
EvoLucia’s product design begins with defining the pattern of light, level of uniformity and number of foot-candles desired for the application. For street lighting, mounting height and pole spacing requirements are also taken into account. The requirements are then “rolled up” into the design of the product, and the LEDs, reflectors and lenses are positioned on a platform specifically designed to achieve the desired results.
Other, less-refined approaches (such as the popular “light bar” design method) employ only one mounting surface or only a very few, thus limiting the directions in which the LEDs can be aimed. This limits the uniformity of coverage of the intended pattern of light on the ground. This approach is equivalent to attempting to tile a 12’ x 15’ room with one 8’ x 8’ tile or three 7’ x 7’ tiles. Either there will not be enough coverage (dark spots on the road) or there’s going to be a lot of overlap (overly bright spots). The Aimed Optics approach is like covering the same room with tiles that have been calculated and cut to fit exactly in the available space, with minimal overlap and providing the best and most efficient uniformity.
It is this capability of “Aimed Optics” that ideally enables Sunovia’s luminaires to meet and exceed the Dept. of Energy’s Fitted Target Efficacy (FTE) Energy Star criteria for solid-state lighting (SSL) luminaires. Prior to introduction of the FTE metric, LED product performance was typically measured the overall luminous efficacy or the amount of light an LED luminaire produces (in all directions). However, light output (lumens) is not the same thing as light delivered (illumination).
According to the DOE, “Fitted Target Efficacy (FTE) evaluates the efficacy with which a luminaire delivers uniform illumination to a rectangular uniform area of coverage (the target area).” Fundamentally, that is the same criteria to which Sunovia’s “Aimed Optics” luminaires are designed, using the fewest LEDs (and consequently the least amount of energy) to achieve the best uniformity over the required area and therefore the best FTE.
Summary of the features of EvoLucia Aimed LED Lighting:
• EvoLucia Aimed LED Lighting is Clean. LED lighting is the most advanced alternative to antiquated, inefficient lighting – and EvoLucia is the most advanced LED lighting available. EvoLucia LED lights are energy-efficient and environmentally friendly, as they use up to 75% less energy than traditional light sources, require zero maintenance and drastically reduce carbon emissions. They use no toxic chemicals like the mercury that is found in compact fluorescent bulbs.
• EvoLucia Aimed LED Lighting is Cool. Proper thermal management of LED lights is crucial to maximizing lumen output and product life. EvoLucia products utilize cutting-edge “heat sink” technology to draw heat away from the LED light array, keeping the lights at their optimum performance temperature.
• EvoLucia Aimed LED Lighting is Controlled. EvoLucia products employ Sunovia’s proprietary, patent-pending Aimed Optics™ technology, which provides the highest quality and most efficient illumination possible. Expertly designed optics and reflectors strategically direct the LED light exactly where it is needed, virtually eliminating glare, spill and light pollution.
